£80,000 Big Lottery Funding
                  This is the Final!!!

Did we get it? YES!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their help and support.  We had support from (UK mobiles) from New York, Cyprus, Australia, Spain and all over the UK.

We will now review our project plans and set up the team to implement the plan.  We'll post our plans here in the near future and keep you updated as to how things are going.

Again thank you all very much.

2009 update

The pool was covered last year;  showers installed in the changing rooms and a disabled changing room added.  This year the heating and 'air conditioning' has been upgraded to a system that 'recycles' the heat.

Monday December 10th

We find out today at 6.00pm on Central News.

Thanks to everyone for their help and support - all those who helped with leaflets and posters and those who persuaded family friends and colleagues to vote for us.  Thanks. Fingers crossed!

Friday 30th November

The result will be announced on Central News 6.00pm on Friday 30th.

It has been announced that the Swimming Pool Roofing and Refurbishment Project has reached the final stage of the Central News Peoples Millions Lottery funding. Our project is one of eight competing for £80,000 lottery funding.  We will be going head to head with another competing project to be televised on Central News on THURSDAY 29th November.

We will be given a telephone voting number (on that day) and will need to secure as many votes as possible on that day.  The project with the most telephone votes received out of the two competing projects on that day will win the £80,000 lottery funding.

The Central News cameras will shortly be coming to film our television plea and help and ideas are needed in our appeal.

How can you help?

e-mail us at with you telephone number and we will call you or text you with the number to vote with on that day.  Details of the voting are available on the Peoples Millions site; calls are charged at National Rates.

Or contact us at with offers of help or for more information..

Pool 4 all

Well maybe the sea, the sand and the starfish above slightly exaggerate what we're trying to do but this is an off the shelf web-site  for a small training pool in the landlocked village of Barton under Needwood in Staffordshire.

The Training Pool at the school was built in the early 1970s by the local community - they collected newspapers for recycling to raise the money. The pool was originally used by the community as a whole. But  under pressure of heating costs, insurance and H&S requirements up to recently it was only being used by the school for teaching the children in the summer term.

We want to heat it using solar energy, put a retractable roof over it, and open it to the community as a whole again.

Oh the pool is only small - one metre deep, though nearly every child in the village has learned to swim in it over the last forty years...
